Blockchain technology is often seen as the source of efficiency in major aspects of all trade. But I often like to look at the impact it will have in the developing nations as I feel this technology makes the world flatter and eases the uphill battle the world's weaker communities face in the global economic field.
IoT markets have massive annual expenses which will soon cross the trillion dollar mark. 2 dozen of the world's poorest countries don't even have a combined GDP that matches this figure, let alone have the liquidity to compete with such expenses. But IoT is a critical aspect of the future of technology, and I am referring to its impact in not just consumer goods, but also safety mechanisms. IoT sensors are playing a major part in making general security features smarter with IoT sensors (think: IoT smoke sensors, IoT chemical sensors, and so on).
The major aspect that makes the IoT so costly is the R&D necessary to keep the devices that participate in the work as updated as possible. That demands constant derivation of actionable results from data, and acquiring data is expensive. As gathering data is the first step in research and advancement, many of the poorest countries are halted at just the first step.
Dao for Me, You, EVERYONE
Presently, sensor owners have no means to utilize sensor data once they have acquired their needs from it. But with DataBroker Dao, millions of sensor owners would compete to offer data at low costs (Read a detailed intro to DataBroker Dao here).
Since their primary purpose, personal usage of the sensors and the sensor data, would have already been met, they would not hesitate from offering low costs just to develop a new cash flow. Additionally, in a market where development is constant, they'd need to sell the data swiftly else it'd lose all value in the secondary market. There would be a constant flow of updated data at low costs and the suppliers would be more than happy to provide as this would allow them to recoup some of their costs, something that was not achievable before.
Given the affordable and easy access to actionable sensor data that will be available on the secondary market, the developing countries will have an opportunity to advance some of their own technology. While they may not be able to develop competitive products, they will at least be able to advance IoT devices that are critical for public safety.
In addition, I think of separate channels, IoT sensor data can serve the largest companies.
By 2014, Fortune 500 companies spend $ 15 billion on corporate social responsibility efforts; That number is up 35% today.
I believe that major corporations, in an attempt to inflate the donations amount they disclose to the public, will provide sell data via DataBroker Dao and consider the descrepancy between the sale price and the data acquisition cost as an act of charity.
While deceptive, this measure will be great for the developing nations as, major corporations acting in their best interest would be providing major amounts of valuable sensor data to them at great prices.
DataBroker Dao is about to make a major mark on the IoT market, and not even the weakest nation will be left aside.
Conclusion — A New Marketplace for a New Era
The IoT revolution that is coming over the next few years will change the way so many industries operate and collect data.
Creating a marketplace for this data is a great idea — so much of the data could otherwise sit idle and not be used, or could miss out on being enriched and providing valuable insights about our cities and society.
The Databroker DAO Token (DTX) will provide a simple mechanism for the buying and selling of this data on their platform, with incentives for offering good quality data.
Its value could increase in time if there is strong usage of the platform and therefore demand for the tokens.
